'Solidarity with Vajpayee'
NEW DELHI, DEC. 10. The following is the text of the resolution
adopted at the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting here
today:
The Government of the NDA is committed to maintain the rule of
law, which is its Constitutional duty. In the litigation over the
title of the disputed land in Ayodhya, which is at the centre of
the longstanding controversy, the NDA Government is duty-bound to
accept and implement the decision of the Supreme Court, which is
presently seized of this matter.
We believe that all parties to the dispute, and every political
party in the country whose constitution in its preamble/ aims and
objects commits it to uphold the Constitution of India, must
accept the verdict of the Supreme Court. The status quo must be
maintained until the Supreme Court delivers its verdict.
The NDA reiterates its unambiguous to the protection and
promotion of secularism. It remains unreservedly committed to
implement its national agenda without any deviation.
This agenda, which was unanimously adopted by all the constituent
parties of the NDA, had consciously left out all issues of
contentious nature in order to create an atmosphere for dialogue
and consensus on such issues and promote harmony between all
communities.
We are heartened that during these nearly three years of the
Government led by Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, we have been
successful in reducing incidents that create or breed on
disharmony.
The NDA is distressed that Parliament has hardly been able to
transact any business during the week that has just ended because
of the obstructionist tactics adopted by the Opposition in the
two Houses.
Opposition parties have chosen to prevent Parliament from
functioning on the demand that three Ministers in Mr. Vajpayee's
Cabinet should resign from the Government.
The NDA sees no reason whatsoever for these three Ministers to
resign from their ministerial positions on an issue that has no
bearing on their Constitutional duties.
Mr. Vajpayee had given expression to his anguish at what happened
in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992 by saying in Parliament and
outside that ``It was most unfortunate''. It is a view that is
held by all parties of the NDA.
At a time when the country is facing several challenges, the NDA
hopes that the Opposition will end the confrontation in
Parliament that has caused great dismay in the minds of the
people.
The NDA expresses its full solidarity with and support to the
leadership of Mr. Vajpayee.
