AICC session from Dec 22 to elect CWC members

NEW DELHI, DEC. 10. A two-day session of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) is likely to be held here from December 22 to elect 12 Congress Working Committee (CWC) members. Party sources said the steering committee of the party would be meeting shortly to finalise the dates.

Consequent to organisational polls, the Congress president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, had converted the CWC into steering committee to look into day-to-day functioning of the party.

Ms. Gandhi was elected president of the party in the November 12 organisational polls defeating her challenger Mr. Jitendra Prasada.

After amendment in the party constitution, there are 24 CWC members of which 12 are to be elected directly while others are to be nominated by the party chief. More than 1100 AICC delegates would be electing 12 CWC members at the session.

The party has reserved 33 per cent and 20 per cent organisational posts at all levels to women and weaker sections respectively.
