CPI(M) master minded Kannur violence: BJP team
By Our Staff Reporter
THALASSERY, DEC. 10. The BJP's Parliamentary delegation which
visited the violence-affected areas in Kannur district on a fact-
finding mission has alleged that the recent incidents of violence
aimed at targeting the BJP workers were masterminded by the
CPI(M) State leadership.
The delegation comprising five party MPs, Mr. Anadi Suha, Ms.
Savitha Sharda, Mr. S.S. Ahluwalia, Mr. C.P. Radhakrishnan and
Mr. Balbeer Punj, told a press conference here today that the
cult of violence that the CPI(M) was cultivating in areas under
its control was indicative of the fact that the CPI(M) had no
faith in democracy.
"There is nothing much that the rest of the country can do with
violence in Kerala unless the people here raise against the
CPI(M) violence and support the BJP in the cause," Mr. Suha said.
Stating that the purpose of their visit was to make a first hand
inquiry into the incidents of violence and to see what steps had
been taken by the district administration to stop the `murderous
attacks' on BJP and RSS workers, he said that the delegation
would submit its report to the Prime Minister, the Home Minister
and the BJP's Central leadership.
Attributing the growing incidents of violence in the region to
the CPI(M) workers' panic over the growing popularity of the BJP
among the youth here, he said that erosion of the CPI(M)'s
support base in the Ezhava community following the denial of
Chief Ministership to the party leader, Ms. K.R. Gouri, led to
youth belonging to that community joining the BJP in large
numbers. The recent outbreak of violence had been masterminded by
the CPI(M) leadership to counter the large turnout at a rally
organised to mark the first anniversary of the Bharatiya Janata
Yuva Morcha leader, K.T. Jayakrishnan, murdered last year.
Responding to a reporter's reminder that CPI(M) workers were also
victims of politics of violence in the region, Mr. Suha said
Kerala was definitely not one of the strongholds of the RSS. "How
come political violence takes place only in the CPI(M)-dominant
States of Kerala and West Bengal?" he asked. The team members
said the CPI(M) believed in the creed of violence and it
eliminated political rivals.
Asked about the CPI(M) State secretary, Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan's
allegation that a Union Minister from neighbouring State was
involved in the conspiracy to unleash violence in the district,
the delegation members said the CPI(M) was spreading lies.
To another query whether any action had been taken following the
report of the party's Parliamentary delegation that had visited
the areas in the wake of the earlier outbreak of violence in
December last year, they said the party could not take action
including invocation of Article 356 on its own without the
support of the Opposition Congress(I) in the Rajya Sabha.
"Congress(I) leaders should come forward and support the cause,"
he said. The State Government had abdicated its responsibility.
Earlier, they met the District Collector, Mr. K.R. Jyothilal, and
the SP, Mr. S. Gopinath, at the Rest House here. They visited the
violence-hit areas this morning accompanied by the BJP State
leaders, Mr. P.K. Krishnadas and Mr. P.C. Mohanan.
