Two pilots grounded
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, DEC. 10. The Director-General Civil Aviation, Mr. H.S.
Khola, today grounded two Jet Airways pilots charging them with
negligence while carrying out ``heavy landing'' of Boeing 737-400
with 122 people on board at Mangalore on Friday.
The decision to suspend the licences of the pilot and the co-
pilot was reached following an inquiry by the DGCA into the
incident and decoding of the cockpit voice recorder and the
flight data recorder.
Sources said that as per rules, the Commander should have carried
out the landing at the airport which is surrounded by hills and
has a runway of 5000 feet.
The pilot is reported to have left the job to the co-pilot. The
flight was commandeered by Captain Ron Rodridgues and was co-
piloted by Captain Aparna Raghunadhan.
