Organisational polls: TDP starts training for leaders

HYDERABAD, DEC. 11. A two-day programme began here on Monday for training TDP leaders who will supervise the conduct of primary level organisational elections of the party from December 15 to 21.

In the week-long exercise, TDP workers will elect more than eight lakh representatives to 60,000 booth-level committees and 35,000 panchayat and municipal wards. The second and third phases of the elections will be held in February and March to choose mandal and district-level representatives respectively.

The training programme was attended by 123 party leaders who are district TDP convenors, coordinators and revenue division-level observers. These leaders will, in turn, train partymen in their respective districts who will fan out into nearly 35,000 villages carrying the party's message.

As part of the training, the district leaders were given orientation lectures about the Government's vision for Andhra Pradesh and the missions it has launched for achieving total literacy, eradication of poverty, generating employment and conserving water besides power sector reforms.

The Home Minister, Mr. T. Devender Goud, the School Education Minister, Mr. K. Srihari, the Excise Minister, Mr. T. T. Nageswara Rao, the Power Minister, Mr. K. Subbarayudu, and party leaders, Prof. C. Lakshmanna, Mr. Ch. Rajeshwara Rao and Mr. R. Chandrasekhar Reddy, addressed the participants.

The TDP president, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, will interact with the partymen on Tuesday when all the TDP MLAs and constituency in-charges will also join the training programme.
