YSR withdraws nine writ pleas against CM
By Our Legal Correspondent
HYDERABAD, DEC. 12. Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, former president
of the APCC and leader of the Congress Legislature Party, on
Tuesday withdrew nine public interest writ petitions filed by him
against the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, in the High
Court.
A submission was made to this effect on his behalf before a
Division Bench, comprising the Chief Justice, Mr. Satyabrata
Sinha, and Mr. Justice B. Subhashan Reddy, of the AP High Court.
The Bench permitted the petitioner to withdraw the petitions.
The batch of writ petitions was filed by Dr. Reddy claiming that
they were in public interest. He had made serious allegations
against the Chief Minister and sought various reliefs, including
imposing financial emergency and President's rule.
The allegations ranged from abuse of power, corruption and
failure to administer the State in accordance with the
Constitution, to illegal acquisition of assets etc. These cases
were listed before the Division Bench and arguments were to be
advanced about their admissibility.
A Division Bench of the court, comprising the then Chief Justice,
M.S. Liberhan, and Mr. Justice V.V.S. Rao, on an earlier occasion
had dismissed three writ petitions filed by Dr. Reddy. In one
petition, a direction to the Governor to accord permission to
prosecute the Chief Minister was sought.
