Vajpayee Ministry must quit: Swamy

By Our Staff Reporter

MADURAI, DEC. 12. The Janata Party president, Dr. Subramanian Swamy today demanded that the Union Government should resign immediately and go in for mid-term polls.

Talking to presspersons, he claimed that the RSS was, in fact, gearing up for such polls to gain absolute majority to realise their secret objective of a `Hindu Rashtra'.

He said the `liberal image' of the Prime Minister, Mr. Vajpayee was just a mask as he was the `puppet' of the RSS-Sangh Parivar outfits.

He wanted a detailed investigation by both the CBI and IB into the charges of the alleged LTTE links of the Pondicherry Minister, Mr. `Theni' Jayakumar, levelled by Mr. P. Kannan, since dropped from the Cabinet by the Congress(I) Chief Minister, Mr. P. Shanmugam. ``I have come to learn from other sources that Mr. Shanmugam was forced by Mrs. Sonia Gandhi to sack Mr. Kannan which once again proved my earlier claims that Mrs. Gandhi had `gone soft' on the LTTE,'' he added.

The TMC leader, Mr. G. K. Moopanar also should write to the Union Home Ministry to ask the MDMA to investigate the alleged LTTE links of Mr. Jayakumar, he said.

Dr. Swamy said the Janata Party would organise an agitation on Dec. 27 at Madurai, to protest the Chief Minister's ``failure to respond'' to the demand for naming the Madurai airport after national leader, Muthuramalinga Thevar.

He said he had sent a proposal to the Civil Aviation Ministry to name the Madurai airport after Muthuramalinga Thevar. The Civil Aviation Ministry also had sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Government of Tamil Nadu. The Chief Minister had neither objected nor accepted the proposal. ``When he comes to Madurai on Dec. 27, the Janata Party will organise a stir to protest against his attitude in this regard,'' he added.

Dr. Swamy said the Janata Party would soon begin its preliminary exercises for the coming Assembly elections in the State. The process of candidate selection would be conducted from January 5, 2001, he added.
