CPI(M) takes exception to Joshi's charge
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 12. The CPI(M) State secretariat has
taken strong exception to the Union Human Resources Minister, Dr.
Murli Manohar Joshi's statement that Kerala is experiencing
State-sanctioned terrorism.
In a statement here today, the CPI(M) secretariat said Dr.
Joshi's statement indicated that he was unaware of what is
happening in Kerala. The Union Minister has apparently gone by
the briefing he had received from some of the local leaders or
has made an untrue statement deliberately. Either way, his
statement did not behove a Union Minister, the statement said.
The CPI(M) leadership termed Dr. Joshi's statement a clear
attempt at interfering in the affairs of the State. There is a
clear division of powers under the Constitution between the
Centre and the States. Besides, the three-tier panchayat bodies
are also in existence now. Intervention by one in the
jurisdiction of another is violation of the constitutional scheme
and the principles of political morality, it said.
The statement alleged that the current spate of violence in
Kannur was the fallout of an attempt by the Sangh Parivar to
thwart the Government's attempts to maintain peace in the area.
The Chief Minister had convened an all-party meeting to restore
peace in the district. However, the RSS-BJP combine indulged in
several excesses and murdered two CPI(M) workers. There was also
attempt on the life of the CPI(M) Kannur district secretary, Mr.
E.P. Jayarajan.
Dr. Joshi, the CPI(M) secretariat said, has launched a campaign
against the State Government hiding all these facts. That he is
himself an accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case is known
to all, the statement added.
