CM to monitor power sector reforms

BANGALORE, DEC. 13. The Chief Minister, Mr. S.M. Krishna, said
here on Wednesday that the State would witness a sea change in
the power sector during the next four years.
Addressing a delegation of World Bank officers led by the World
Bank's India Director, Mr. Edwin Lym, he said he would personally
monitor the procedural implementation of the power sector reforms
initiated by his Government. Mr. Krishna said the Government had
undertaken many programmes to enhance power generation. The MRPL
(Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Limited) had placed a
proposal before the Government for supplying power at lower
prices, and the same had been accepted in principle, he added.
Apart from this, the Karnataka Power Corporation had taken steps
to complete the Vijayanagar and Bidadi power projects at the
earliest, he said.He claimed that the staff of Karnataka Power
Transmission Corporation Limited (KTPCL) had not expressed any
resentment or dissent over privatisation of the power
distribution sector.
The Chief Secretary, Mr. B.K. Bhattacharya, the Additional Chief
Secretary, Ms. Teresa Bhattacharya, the Finance Commissioner, Mr.
C. Gopala Reddy, the Development Commissioner, Mr. A. Ravindra,
and the Secretary to Chief Minister, Mr. S.V. Ranganath, were
present at the meeting.
