DK meet condemns PM's remarks on temple

By Our Staff Reporter

THANJAVUR, DEC. 13. The central executive committee of the Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) which met at Vallam near here today condemned the statement of the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, on construction of the Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya and said the Prime Minister had acted as if he was giving ``guidelines'' to the Supreme Court.

The committee passed a resolution to this effect at the meeting. Briefing presspersons on the resolutions adopted, Mr. K. Veeramani, general secretary, said the Prime Minister, who was bounden to wait for the judgment of the Supreme Court on the issue and implement its order, had made a unilateral statement that the temple could be built at the site where the Masjid was demolished. In a way he had committed contempt of court, he said.

The Prime Minister's other statement that the three central ministers, Mr. L. K. Advani, Mr. Murali Manohar Joshi and Ms. Uma Bharathi went to Ayodhya only to pacify agitationists and prevent violence seemed to have been made with the aim of influencing the CBI, working under his direct control.

The committee also said that the DMK, MDMK, and PMK, the NDA allies from Tamil Nadu had failed to condemn the statement of the Prime Minister.

At the same time they proclaimed themselves `protectors of the Muslim community.' This exposed their contradictions, the resolution said.

Dravidar Kazhagam volunteers will participate in a statewide agitation on December 29 to implement the act providing for all persons to become archakas in temples, irrespective of caste.

Mr. Veeramani said that he would participate in the agitation at Thanjavur.
