A face-to-face with bus crew to be held
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, DEC. 13. A face-to-face interaction of bus drivers and
conductors with the general public on rights and responsibilities
will be held next month, Mr. Swaran Singh, Managing Director of
the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) said today.
Giving away prizes, sponsored by the Rotary Club, to the best
drivers, conductors and foremen, he said that conductors should
collect a minimum of Rs. 20 per trip, they should not sit in the
seat but move around the bus to issue tickets.
Among other duties, they should ensure that women, the aged and
physically handicapped and the blind get a seat in the bus and
remind footboard travellers to refrain from doing so.
Drivers and conductors should come forward with suggestions to
the management on the means to improve services. Stress was also
laid on coming to work and taking the bus out on time.
He said that health check-up for all members of the family of MTC
would be arranged and the cost of operations would be borne by
the management and NGOs.
He requested organisations like the Rotary Club to adopt each
depot. Plans were afoot to give computer training to all
administrative staff working in the administrative section.
Mr. Madhavan Nambiar, Transport Secretary, said that the MTC
recorded Rs. 5.6 crore loss each month and he sought the co-
operation of drivers and conductors to improve its performance.
Mr. P. T. Ramkumar, Rotary District Governor, also participated
