TRC wants Pondy Govt. dismissed
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, DEC. 13. Mr. R. Ravinder Varma, president, and Mr.
N. G. Tiruvarasan, senior vice-president of the Pondicherry unit
of the Tamizhaga Rajiv Congress (TRC), have called upon the
Pondicherry Lt. Governor to intervene and dismiss the
Congress(I)- led coalition ministry.
In a statement on Tuesday they said the Chief Minister, Mr. P.
Shanmugham, had failed to take action against the Cooperation
Minister, Mr. Theni C. Jayakumar, even as Mr. P. Kannan, the then
PWD Minister, had come out with authentic evidences to support
the allegation that Mr. Jayakumar had nexus with the banned LTTE.
Mr. Kannan had presented the evidence on the floor of the
Assembly during the recent winter session. The failure of the
Chief Minister to take action against the Cooperation Minister
amounted to a grave injustice to the memory of the former Prime
Minister Rajiv Gandhi who was assassinated by the LTTE.
The TRC leaders said even after identifying the two LTTE
activists who had been allegedly in close contact with Mr.
Jayakumar, the Chief Minister had not taken any action against
the Cooperation Minister. He said there had been a stony silence
on the part of the Chief Minister and also the police in the
matter.
How could a Chief Minister keep a person who had been allegedly
in close nexus with LTTE and run the government? Hence the Lt.
Governor should intervene and dismiss the ministry, they said.
