Top level changes in RPG group

CALCUTTA, DEC. 14. The RPG group has gone in for a major re- shuffle at the top.

The organisational revamp will see Mr. P. K. Chowdhary, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the communication business, taking over as President and CEO of the group's tyre business comprising Ceat, Phillips Carbon Black as well as Ceat's tyre interest in Sri Lanka. Mr. Chowdhary will take over the mantle from Mr. Samuel, who will cease to be the Managing Director of Ceat on January 15 when he retires.

According to a release from the group, the communication sector will be re-christened as IT and telecom sector and will be headed by Mr. P. K. Mohapatra, who is now the President and CEO of the retail sector. Mr. Mohapatra will continue to operate from Chennai.

The retail sector will be bifurcated into two - retail and entertainment. Mr. Raghu Pillai, Managing Director of FoodWorld Supermarkets, will now head the retail sector comprising FoodWorld, MusicWorld, Health & Glow, Cash & Carry as also tyre, batteries and accessories project. The Managing Director of Saregama India Ltd. (formerly Gramaphone Company of India), Mr. Abhik Mitra, will now head the entertainment sector comprising Saregama India, Saregama Plc, RPG Global Music, Hamara CD Inc and E-RPG Ventures.
