Chennai lawyer sentenced
By Our Legal Correspondent
NEW DELHI, DEC. 15.
The Supreme Court today sentenced Mr. S.K. Sundaram, a Chennai-
based lawyer, to undergo six months imprisonment, holding him
`guilty of criminal contempt' for sending a telegram to the Chief
Justice of India, Dr. A.S. Anand, asking him to step down
alleging that he had already attained the age of superannuation.
A Bench comprising Mr. Justice K.T. Thomas and Mr. Justice R.P.
Sethi, however, suspended the sentence for a month and in the
meanwhile the contemnor should give an undertaking that he would
not commit or even attempt to commit any act of criminal
contempt, then the sentence now imposed would remain suspended
for a further period of five years.
