TN Opposition MPs plea to PM on Salem steel plant

NEW DELHI, DEC. 20. Opposition MPs from Tamil Nadu have demanded that the Centre prevent the handing over of the Salem steel plant to the private sector and grant funds for production.

In a joint memorandum to the Prime Minister, the MPs from the AIADMK, the Congress, the TMC and the CPI(M), said the plant had earned a name in the international and domestic market for its quality products and was among the first of the Steel Authority of India plants to get both ISO 9002 and ISO 14001 certification.

The signatories to the memorandum included, Mr. P.H. Pandian, Mr. T.T.V. Dinakaran, Mr. K.Malaisamy, Mr. V.Thalavai Sundaram, Dr. V. Saroja, Mr. R. Margabandhu, Mr. T.M. Selvaganapathi, Mr. S. Murugesan, Mr. M. Chinnasamy, Mr. C. Sreenivaasan, Mr. P. Soundararajan, Mr. O.S. Manian and Mr. S. Niraikulathan, (all AIADMK), Mr. E.M.S. Natchiappan (Congress), Mr. P.Mohan (CPI-M) and Mr. Peter Alphonse (TMC).
