Diabetes expo planned

CHENNAI, DEC. 20. As a step towards sensitising the public about
diabetes, the M.V. Diabetes Specialities Centre will organise a
three-day exhibition in the city.
The `Diabetes 2000' will showcase the facts about diabetes and
seek to dispel the myths about the disease. The principles and
practices of structured diabetes education will be disseminated
to both health-care providers and public through charts, models,
video shows, audio programmes, skits, live demonstrations,
computer aided programmes, Internet and multimedia presentations
both in English and Tamil, Dr. V. Mohan, chairman of the centre,
said.
In addition, a diet exhibition for diabetics, display and sale of
diabetes related products such as special footwear, diabetic
foods, blood glucose testing machines and pen injectors, and yoga
demonstrations will also be held. Besides, blood sugar testing
meters and strips and other diabetes related equipment and
materials will be available at discounted rates.
The expo will be on at Anna Arivalayam between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
and will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi
on December 22.
