When women MPs laid siege to PM
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, DEC. 21. The Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee, today
found himself surrounded by women MPs in the Rajya Sabha soon
after the House adjourned early for lunch on the issue of Women's
Reservation Bill which ended on a lighter note.
As soon as the Chairman, Mr. Krishan Kant, adjourned the House
after women MPs belonging to the Congress, the Tamil Maanila
Congress, the CPI(M) and the Telugu Desam raised the demand
immediately after question hour, they decided to have a word with
Mr. Vajpayee.
Soon they ringed the seat of Mr. Vajpayee who stood up to hear
their views with the Leader of the House, Mr. Jaswant Singh, by
his side.
Apparently, a senior Minister suggested to the Information and
Broadcasting Minister, Mrs. Sushma Swaraj, who was nearby to
`rescue' Mr. Vajpayee. In a lighter vein, Mrs. Swaraj said she
saw no reason since the Prime Minister was enjoying their
company, attracting an equally swift remark from Mr. Vajpayee
that the women MPs, too, were enjoying his company and made his
exit amid peals of laughter on all sides.
