Polaroid to expand operations
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, DEC. 21. Polaroid Corporation, the $2.15 billion U.S.
headquartered company, today announced plans to launch new
imaging products and technologies. The company is looking at
opening `exclusive' outlets in metros and other key cities. It is
also exploring the possibility of tie-ups with suitable partners
for promoting its products in the country.
In addition to launching two instant cameras for children and
teenagers, the company's other focus area will be its
identification systems.
``Being the world's leading supplier of driver licensing and
identity cards, we expect this figure to go up nearly 20 times in
the next three to five years,'' said the country head, Ms. Achal
Khanna, at a news conference here today.
Polaroid is also planing to introduce tamper-proof law
enforcement solutions that can provide a true and accurate record
of any crime, thus enhancing the investigation of criminal cases
and bringing down the prosecution and court costs.
Polaroid has been in India for the last eight years and today has
annual sales of about Rs. 50 crores. The company has an OEM
manufacturing base in Goa which caters to the world-wide demand
for the one-minute passport photo camera.
