BANGALORE, DEC. 21. The California-based Netscape Communications
today announced the launch of its India operations, indicating
that it has invested $10 million in it.
Netscape Communications India Private Ltd.'s (Netscape India)
would utilise Indian software development talent and employ over
100 senior engineers to develop next-generation software products
for Netscape and America Online Inc (AOL).
Announcing the launch, Netscape India managing director, Mr.
Maneesh Dhir, told reporters that a 100 per cent owned indirect
subsidiary of AOL based in Bangalore, Netscape India's first
projects would include software for Iplanet e-commerce solutions,
a global strategic alliance of Sun Microsystems, Netscape and
AOL, that provides enterprise Internet software.
Mr. Dhir declined to specify the investment made in Netscape
India but said it was comparable to the investment of $10 million
`when we started Iplanet'.
Netscape Communications is a subsidiary of AOL, which is a world
leader in interactive services, web brands, Internet technologies
and e-commerce services. ``We see India becoming a key
development site for Netscape and AOL", he said.
