FICCI award for BPCL

MUMBAI, DEC. 21. The public sector Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) has received the FICCI award for 1999-2000 in recognition of its `corporate initiatives in the field of rural development'. Mr. U. Sundararajan, Chairman and Managing Director of BPCL received the award from the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, recently.

BPCL, an oil major, has taken up projects in 27 villages, most of which are located in far flung areas, where primary schools, health clinic and community centres have been set up. It has also been associated with and has supported the cause of various agencies and NGOs like CRY, for sponsoring its projects of rehabilitation of villages in East India, Cancer Patients Aid Association and NAB. It has also been supporting various medical institutions like Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Foundation in Delhi and Shankara Netralaya in Guwahati.
