Promising and vibrant
AT THE inaugural function of Music and Dance festival of the
Mylapore Fine Arts Club, 12- year-old Pooja Kumar (from U.S.),
disciple of Sujatha Srinivasan, performed revealing striking
talent, both in nritta and abhinaya; she exhibited commen-
dable enthusiasm, bubbling energy and keen interest, in
presenting her Bharatanatyam recital in a very impressive manner,
which seemed much above what is expected of her age.
Pooja fulfilled the basic requisites, like the perfect posture
and neat feet position from which she never deviated. Equally the
hand delineations were alright, except that more care should be
given while stretching out on the sides. Pooja has a very mobile
face that can bring about the various expressions swiftly and
charmingly.
Sujatha, the teacher, deserves every praise for giving Pooja a
thorough training. Her choice of the items were apt for the age
of the dancer. Babu Parameswaran (vocal), Ramesh Babu
(mridangam), and K. T. Sivaganesh (violin) rendered excellent
support. Sujatha conducted the performance with confidence.
