City lights up for season's best

YOU DON'T really have to hear the bells jingle to know that Christmas is here. The glitter all over the place says it all. A 20 ft. tall X'mas tree in Spencer Plaza, streams of tiny lights marking the silhouettes of avenue trees along G.N. Chetty Road and lots more.

The city is cold, does not have snow, but is all decked up for Christmas and New Year, and shoppers are out in droves.

Cookie Man, the Australian firm has planned to make the most of it to promote its outlet in Spencer Plaza. So, for seven days in two phases that began on Friday, the tiny tots are in for a fun- filled shopping experience.

The children can have their choice of tattoos engraved by professionals or even entertain themselves to a ventriloquism and a magic show. These apart, the story teller, a group of young dancers and a choir performing Christmas Carols promise to add colour to the atmosphere.

There are lots of freebies too. Good old Santa is going to be out there with his bag full of surprise gifts. So, try out your luck, says the bearded old man, at the Phase II Atrium of Spencer Plaza. The Alsa Mall shop owners in Egmore, not to be left behind, have come up with their set of events for children and adults alike. The occasion promises to be more entertainment centric with various games, fashion shows and many more.

The mood has caught the hotels too. G.R.T.Grand Days has lined up a whole day carnival for kids, women and couples on Saturday. While amusement games, dance, drawing, painting, story-telling, fashion and magic shows form the line-up for kids, the women can demonstrate their prowess in cookery, desserts and vegetable carving. Couples hooked to dancing will be offered a chance to hip-hop throughout the day. The more traditional touch is provided by turkey buffet meals on Sunday and Monday at the Coffee Shop. There's good news for computer geeks too. A host of sites on the Net offer resources on Christmas shopping, cool games for Christmas party, a collection of recipes befitting Christmas and much more. So, get online and keep it going.

Not to miss out the numerous special offers and discounts being offered by the shopping arenas, from furniture to home appliances to clothing. Capitalising on an occasion that has earned itself a brand-name? Jingle all the way.
