Asahi India plans to set up unit in Chennai
By Our Corporate Reporter
CHENNAI, DEC. 22. Asahi India Safety Glass, manufacturer of
automotive safety glass (ASG), is planning to set up a unit in
Chennai. The site selection process, which is currently under
way, is expected to be completed within a month.
The Chennai unit will be the company's second such facility. In
addition, the Chennai facility being close to the port would
cater to Asahi India's increasing exports, especially of
laminated windshields.
The proposed unit would cater to the requirements of the
company's southern customers including Ford, Hyundai and the
Mitsubishi Lancer project of Hindustan Motors and Toyota.
Asahi is the sole supplier of ASG to these major car producers
and supplies are being effected from its existing facility at
Rewari district in Haryana. The Rewari unit has a capacity to
produce ASG to meet the requirements of 1.2 million cars.
