LTTE truce rejected
COLOMBO, DEC. 23. The Sri Lankan Government today rejected the
unilateral ceasefire offered by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil
Eelam which was to come into effect tomorrow. In an official
statement here, it said ``goodwill gestures'' were unnecessary as
the Government had ``clearly indicated its wish to engage in
talks.''
``The Government of Sri Lanka repeats its call to the LTTE to
engage honestly in this opportunity for peace. Until then,
military operations will continue,'' the statement said.
