Aryan invasion
Sir, - The thought-provoking article by Mr. N. S. Rajaram
(TheHindu, Dec. 19) will wake up, I am sure, our historians to
rewrite Indian history which continues to be a British legacy
even after 53 years of independence.
It is now well recognised that the Aryan Invasion Theory is a
deliberate lie coined and spread by the British for the past 200
years. This theory of Aryan-Dravidian conflict is a figment of
colonial fantasy used by the British to divide and rule India.
This issue assumes importance because it is a question relating
to the origins of our culture. Our identity in the world depends
on it. From time immemorial we have looked to the Vedas as the
well-spring of our existence. None questioned it. And now, in the
last two centuries, others are telling us that they do not really
belong to us and that they are impositions by foreign invaders.
It may be of interest to note that even Babasaheb Ambedkar
outright rejected the Aryan Invasion Theory nearly 60 years ago.
In the book Babasaheb Ambedkar: Writings and Speeches, Volume 7,
Page-85 published by the Education Department, Government of
Maharashtra, 1990, Ambedkar concludes:
1. ``The Vedas do not know any such race as the Aryan race''
2. ``There is no evidence in the Vedas of any invasion of India
by the Aryan race and its having conquered the Dasas and Dasyus,
supposed to be the natives of India''
3. ``There is no evidence to show that the distinction between
Aryans and Dasas and Dasyus was a racial distinction''
4. ``The Vedas do not support the contention that the Aryans were
different in colour from the Dasas and Dasyus''.
It is however heartening to note that of late several leading
researchers in Europe and America have rejected the Aryan
Invasion Theory, eventhough Indian history books are not prepared
to accept the verdict.
