FIIs turn net sellers

MUMBAI, DEC. 24. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in equities at Rs. 498.5 crores ($ 106.6 million) for the trading week ended December 22.According to the data available with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), FIIs were net sellers also in debt to the tune of Rs. 6.2 crores ($ 1.4 million) for the week.

FIIs were net buyers in equities at Rs. 232.1 crores ($ 49.6 million) and net sellers in debt at Rs. 81.9 crores ($ 17.5 million) in the previous week.

On the equity front, the foreign funds were net buyers only on December 18, the first trading day of the week, at Rs. 27.7 crores ($ 5.9 million) while they remained net sellers on all the other days.

The BSE sensitive index generally moved downwards to end the week at 3905.90 against last weekend close of 4137.16, netting a huge fall of 231.26 points. The benchmark index saw a rise only on December 18 of 32.23 points.FIIs offloaded equities worth Rs. 214.4 crores ($ 45.8 million) and Rs. 280 crores ($ 59.9 million) on December 19 and 21 respectively.

On the debt side, they were net sellers of Rs. 51.3 crores ($ 11 million) on December 22, while they remained net buyers on December 18, 19 and 20. No transaction was conducted on December 21.
