Hanumant Singh also quits NCA

MUMBAI, DEC. 24. The National Cricket Academy, in the news for the resignation of committee member Sunil Gavaskar under controversial circumstances, is now without its Director of Coaching with Mr.Hanumant Singh submitting his resignation from the post. It is learnt he has cited health reasons for leaving the Bangalore- based academy, though he was not available for comment.

The exit of coach Vasu Paranjpe for personal reasons now leaves the Board of Control for Cricket in India with atleast three important vacancies to fill.

One of the names being mentioned as a possible replacement for the vacancies created in the NCA's coaching department is Balwinder Singh Sandhu. The former Mumbai Ranji team coach, under whom Mumbai emerged on top in 1996-97 and 1997- 98, however, confirmed that no offer had been made so far.

The former India seamer, who forged a winning combination with Sanjay Manjrekar as the Mumbai skipper, is now part of the Maharashtra Cricket Academy, working as the chief coach from his new base in Pune.

``I am contracted to the MCA till March and my objective is to complete the task at hand - training the State coaches, looking after junior cricket besides preparing the Maharashtra Ranji team,'' said Sandhu, who looked at the NCA coaching offer as a ``challenge worth considering'' if and when it happens.
