'Press' sticker fails chainsnatcher
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, DEC. 25. Riyaz Khan, an alleged chain snatcher was
certainly a smooth operator. He used to snatch gold chains from
unsuspecting housewives and zoom away on his Yamaha motorcycle.
This could be a normal modus operandi for any chain snatcher, but
Khan used to ride past the police pickets without being checked.
The reason...he had a `press' sticker affixed to his mobike.
Its common for even the police to wave away the `presswallah'
during the surprise checks which are organised now and then.
Khan, obviously noticed that the presswallahs get some
preferential treatment from the police affixed the sticker on the
motorcycle which was also a stolen one.
However, Khan was not that lucky when a police team of S.R. Nagar
station picked him up while he was reportedly trying to sell a
gold chain at Erragadda on Monday. He confessed to his
involvement in five gold chain snatching cases. The police have
also recovered five gold chains weighing over 10 tolas at his
instance. The SR Nagar DSI Mr. P.R. Kosal Ram is investigating
the case.
