Lashkar threatens to target PMO
By B. Muralidhar Reddy
ISLAMABAD, DEC. 26. The Pakistan-based militant organisation,
Lashkar-e-Taiba, has threatened more strikes against Government
installations and buildings in Delhi including that of the office
of the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee.
In a statement, LeT spokesperson, Mr. Yahya Mujahideen, said
activists of the Lashkar would storm Mr. Vajpayee's office and
carry out a fidayeen (suicide) attack there.
``If our cadres can force their entry into Delhi's Red Fort, it
will not be an uphill task to barge into Mr. Vajpayee's office,''
the statement said.
The statement said the Indian Government should abandon the
``politics of ceasefire'' and withdraw troops from Kashmir. ``If
India fails to withdraw its troops we will intensify our fiyadeen
attacks within India and force it to pull out its troops.''
Security beefed up
PTI reports:
Security around the PMO, the Prime Minister's residence and all
other sensitive places in the capital has been beefed up
following threats by militants to carry out suicide attacks.
``We have beefed up the security at all vital installations
including the office of the Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee,''
the Special Commissioner (Security), Mr. R.S. Gupta, told
reporters when asked to comment on the threat of the LeT.
