309 die in China fire

BEIJING, DEC. 26. About 309 people were charred to death on Christmas night in a fire in a multi-storeyed building in central China, Xinhua news agency reported.

The fire broke out at a department store housed in a building in Luoyang city in Henan province. A group of builders were trapped on the second and third floors and over 200 people in a dance hall on the fourth floor.
