Party spokesman rapped on knuckles

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, DEC. 25. The APCC president, Mr. M. Satyanarayana Rao, has asked the party spokesman, Mr. K. Keshava Rao, to explain his action in dashing off a strongly-worded letter to the CLP Leader, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, questioning the propriety of withdrawing his writ petitions against the Chief Minister.

Mr. Rao seemed to express his disapproval of Mr. Keshava Rao's letter, which found its way into several newspapers, when he said that ``fortunately or unfortunately, he is the party spokesman. Whatever he says reflects upon the PCC president and the party,'' he added.

Answering questions at a news conference here on Tuesday, the Congress leader denied suggestions that Mr. Keshava Rao had written the letter at his instance or that he had ever disapproved of Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy's actions.

``I have no idea about the contents of the writ petitions. The CLP leader has clarified the reasons for withdrawing the petitions from the A. P. High Court at a press conference that he addressed along with his advocate. I don't think that this had damaged the party's interests,'' he asserted.

The PCC chief said the list of AICC members from Andhra Pradesh would be announced by the party high command in a day or two.
