Underlying message
Sir, - This refers to the news item ``Mosque could be built at
alternative place - PM for temple at disputed site'' (The Hindu,
Dec. 8) and also to Ms. Malini Parthasarathy's article ``No
accidental swayamsevak'' (Dec. 11). State Assembly elections in
Assam, West Bengal, U.P. and Tamil Nadu are due shortly. So the
pseudo secular parties and pseudo progressive parties (both
inside and outside the NDA) feel it necessary to show themselves
as guardians of Muslims.
The Opposition parties in Parliament made such a rumpus that the
Houses had to be adjourned continuously for a week. They picked
up the innocuous statement of Mr. Vajpayee to continue their
brawl. What Mr. Vajpayee had stated was nothing new. The V. P.
Singh, Chandra Shekhar and P. V. Narasimha Rao governments were
holding the same stand.
When Mr. Vajpayee says that the matter can be settled by court's
decision or by a dialogue in building a temple there and mosque
at another site, there is an underlying message.
If the court does not favour the above position or the dialogue
does not yield any result nothing can be done at present and this
is the message. Creating chaos in Parliament is not going to help
any one.
K. Ramani,
Chennai
