Gobin in sole lead

AHMEDABAD, DEC. 28. T. Gobin of Manipur shot into sole lead with a thrilling sixth round victory over West Bengal's Prabuddha Ghosh in the under-9 boys' category of the National children chess championship here on Thursday while I. Ramya Krishna continued her winning spree in the girls' category.

With this victory Gobin moved to six points from as many matches. Prabuddha, who was joint leader after the fifth round on Wednesday, fell to joint third at 5 points with Sreeyans of Madhya Pradesh placed second at 5.5.

In under-9 girls', Ramya Krishna maintained her clean slate and top position with a fluent win against Priya Ratnam of Bihar. D. Meenu of Andhra Pradesh, who defeated Sonam Shah of Gujarat, was in the second spot with five points.

Important results: boys: under-9: T. Gobin (6) bt Prabuddha Ghosh (5); Sreeyans (5.5) bt Sankalp Modwal (4.5); Yuzvendra (4.5) drew with V. Karthik (5); Y. Sandeep (5) bt Shubam Pinge (4); Abhishek (4) lost to Navneet Detha (5); Nilesh (5) bt T.S. Arvind (4).

Under-7: S. Ravi Teja (6) bt P. Negi (4.5); Kumar Gaurav (5.5) bt Tarun Murli (4.5); Mohd Fawazpa (4) lost to P. Bharath (5); L. Mahendra (5) bt Dhaval Adhav (4); Vishal Thakre (5) bt K.H. Sanjoy (4).

Girls: under-9: Priya Ratnam (4) lost to I. Ramya Krishna (6); D. Meenu (5) bt Sonam Shah (4); N. Pragna Patvi (5) bt Dhayani Dave (4); Mitali Patil (5) bt Shruti Ratnakar (4).

Under-7: Pallabi Roy (4) lost to P.L. Sahiti (6); C.H. Saveetha (5) bt T. Amrutha Varshini (4); P. Priya (4) lost to Akshatha Bhat (5).
