63 killed in ferry collision
DHAKA, DEC. 29.
At least 63 people, including 22 children were killed and several
went missing after two passenger ferries collided early today in
river Meghna in central Bangladesh, official sources said.
The Madaripur-bound, m.l. Rajhangshi, sank in the river near
Mohanpur under Motlab Thana about 20 kms from Chandpur district
headquarters at about 3 a.m. when it was hit by the Dhaka-bound,
m.v. Jalkapot-2.
Police linked the accident to excessive passengers and early
morning dense fog, sources said adding two probe bodies have been
formed and have started functioning.
