Vice-President to open Partnership meet

HYDERABAD, DEC. 29. The Seventh Partnership Summit being organised here by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) from January 9 to 11 will be inaugurated by the Vice-President, Mr. Krishan Kant.

Mr. Shimon Peres, Minister of Regional Cooperation and Former Prime Minister of Israel, as also the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, will address the inaugural session on January 9.

According to a CII press release, more than 120 overseas delegates are expected to participate in various sessions. International business delegations are expected from 13 countries, including the US, the UK, Belgium, Israel, South Africa, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The theme of the summit is `Old economy-new economy: moving ahead together'. A special plenary session, `The United States under the Bush administration' will attempt to look into strategies that need to be adopted for both the countries to move hand in hand for the next four years.

The Finance Minister, Mr. Yashwant Sinha, the Minister for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Murasoli Maran, the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mrs. Sushma Swaraj, and the Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. N.K. Singh, are among those who are expected to participate.

Among the overseas speakers expected are Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, and Mr. Mike Moore, Director-General of World Trade Organisation. Mr. Jim McDermott, Co-Chairman of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans, and four other members of the Caucus visiting India will also be sharing their views.
