Govt. employees told to address common man's problems
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 29. The JSS leader, Ms.K.R.Gouri, MLA,
today reminded Government employees that trade union activities
should not be at the expense of the common man.
Inaugurating the 7th anniversary of the Kerala Finance
Secretariat Staff Congress, she said the State fallen has into a
debt trap. Ms.Gouri said the Government had failed to provide
subsidies to farmers. She said the arrears due to contractors had
crossed Rs.6,000 crores.
Ms.Gouri said trade union activities should not be confined to
fighting for the legitimate demands of employees. They should
also address the problems of the common man, she said. She added
that the flawed policies of the State Government had impacted on
the people.
The former Union Minister and Congress(I) leader, Mr. S.
Krishnakumar, said the per capita income in Kerala had fallen
behind the national average. He said the State's debt burden had
increased to Rs.25,000 crores over the last four years. Mr.
Krishnakumar said Kerala was trailing behind other States even
though it had the potential to emerge as the country's cyber-
State. He attributed this to the lack of foresight on the part of
the LDF regime.
The Staff Congress president, Mr. K. S. Sivarajan, presided over
the meeting. Mr. Babu Divakaran, MLA, the secretary of the Kerala
Gazetted Officers Union, Dr. N. Babu Vijayanath, and the State
treasurer of the NGO Association, Mr. V. Balakrishnan, also
spoke.
