Inflation rate static

NEW DELHI, DEC. 31. In stark contrast to previous few weeks' stance, the annual inflation rate remained static at the previous week's 8.01 per cent despite substantial fall in the prices of primary articles and a minute rise in the prices of manufactured goods.

The point-to-point inflation based on wholesale price index (WPI) for all commodities (base year: 1993-94 = 100) stood firm above 8 per cent and was only 2.89 per cent a year ago.

However, the WPI fell by 0.1 per cent to 157.7 from 157.8 in the previous week and up from 146 a year ago.
