Paswan releases stamps


NEW DELHI, DEC. 31. The Communications Minister, Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan, today released commemorative postage stamps on historical personalities, Prithviraj Chauhan, Raja Bhamashah, Rajarshi Bhagyachandra and General Zorawar Singh, here. Mr. B.N. Som, Secretary (Posts), officers and staff of the Department of Posts were present.

The stamps issued today are a set of four, commemorating the four historical personalities.

While Prithviraj Chauhan, who ruled from Delhi, is known for his bravery, chivalry and kindness, Raja Bamashah was the adviser of Maharana Pratap who played crucial roles in military exercises of Mewar against the mighty Mughal army including the battle of Haldi Ghati.

Rajarshi Bhagyachandra was the king of Manipur who successfully resisted the Burmese invasions. General Zorawar Singh was a Dogra warrior who joined the army of Maharaja Gulab Singh of Kashmir, as a sepoy and rose on account of his soldierly qualities and military acumen to become the Governor of Kishtwar and earned the title of `Wazir'.
