Constable shoots colleague

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, DEC. 31. A police constable was seriously injured when a head constable shot at him with his service revolver in Channapatna Rural Police Station limits in Bangalore Rural District on Saturday night.

Police said that a bullet hit Mr. Shiva Huchaiah (29), a constable in Jnanabharathi Police Station, on the right shoulder. He was rushed to Victoria Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital. He is said to be out of danger.

According to police, Mr. Kunna Huchaiah, a City Armed Reserve (CAR) head constable and the gunman of the Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Shivanna, tried to disturb a drama show at Yeligere village around 10.30 p.m.

Mr. Shiva Huchaiah, who was watching the play, appealed to the head constable to behave himself and this led to an argument between them. An angry Mr. Kunna Huchaiah took out his service revolver and shot at Mr. Shiva Huchaiah.

It is said that after the incident, villagers manhandled the head constable. Police have seized the revolver and eight live bullets from Mr. Kunna Huchaiah who has been arrested.

Meanwhile, when a senior police officer was questioned how a CAR head constable was allowed to carry his service revolver when not on duty, he said there were ``no specific guidelines'' for policemen to deposit arms after they complete their duty.
