Lyons Range ends year 2000 on better note
By A Special Correspondent
CALCUTTA, DEC. 31. The Calcutta Stock Exchange witnessed a modest
recovery in share prices by the close of last week after starting
on a depressing note with share prices sinking further in early
dealings due to extended selling pressure. The recovery was
helped by fair sized bear covering which was in evidence during
the last three sessions.
This pulled back several shares to levels prevailing at the close
of the previous week and in some cases gains were also noticed.
The CSE's 40-share index recovered to 1929.47 on December 29 from
1899.16 on December 22.
The recovery has, however, been more due to bear covering than
new buying which remained at an appallingly low level because of
the year-end considerations on the part of foreign institutional
investors.
