Afghanistan link to Indonesian bombings
By Amit Baruah
SINGAPORE, JAN. 6. One of the four suspects being held by the
Indonesian police for their alleged role in the Christmas eve
serial bombings has told detectives that he had received military
training in Afghanistan.
According to a report in The Jakarta Post today, Dedi Muliyadi
(31) had told the police that he and his dead colleague, Yoyo,
had been trained in Afghanistan.
The national chief of detectives, Inspector-General Engkesman
Hillep, was quoted as saying that Dedi and two others were
responsible for the blast in a welding shop in Bandung.
The newspaper also reported that the single group behind the
Christmas eve bombings, which killed 18 persons, had established
links with ``underground movements'' in other countries such as
Malaysia.
