SC tells CBI to probe Rajan Pillai's death

NEW DELHI, JAN. 20. Six years after the controversial death of the biscuit tycoon, Rajan Pillai, in judicial custody, the Supreme Court has directed the CBI to probe the circumstances leading to his death in a city hospital where he was moved from the Tihar jail.

A Bench comprising Mr. Justice K.T. Thomas and Mr. Justice R.P. Sethi on Friday upheld the direction issued by the former chief metropolitan magistrate, Mr. Prem Kumar, directing the CBI to probe the alleged ``murder'' of Rajan Pillai saying, ``it requires to be investigated by a specialised agency like the CBI''.
