'Non-extension of ceasefire will send a wrong signal'
NEW DELHI, JAN. 21. The Union Minister of State for Commerce and
Industry, Mr. Omar Abdullah, said the non-extension of ceasefire
in Jammu and Kashmir would ``send a wrong signal'' even as the
Hurriyat Conference suggested that the truce be made a
``permanent feature.''
``Cancellation of the ceasefire at this point would send a wrong
signal which we don't want,'' Dr. Abdullah told Star News, adding
``it will be difficult not to renew the ceasefire.'' He,
however, said there was a rise in the level of militancy
targetting innocent civilians as also the attempt on the life of
the Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah.
