A new tradition begins at Cubbon Park
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE, JAN. 21. Starting off a new tradition at the City's
Cubbon Park on Sunday, the famed Indian Air Force band performed
live to a motley crowd. The band, the oldest from the IAF stable,
will now continue the tradition, returning to repeat the
performance between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. every third Sunday of the
month.
Enthralling the gathering with tunes of the Air Force song and
film hits from ``I love my India'' to ``My heart will go on...'',
the bandsters made a mark with the evening strollers.
The chief guest for the show was Air Commodore D.K.Hegde,
Commandant of Air Force Station, Jalahalli.
The band made full use of the instruments, the wind, brass and
percussion-based ones, mixed to perfection. Warrant Officer
G.K.Nair played the bandmaster, guiding the 30-member troupe.
The band, raised at the Royal Air Force, Rohat, in 1944, also
performed in the presence of Queen Elizabeth for the Royal
Tournament at Earls Court, London in 1995. Incidentally, the
Indian Air Force has eight bands.
