Auto driver dead in road mishap; 3 cars damaged

BANGALORE, JAN. 21. An autorickshaw driver was killed on the spot and three cars were damaged when a lorry hit them in Indiranagar Police limits in the City on Sunday.

Police said that the lorry hit the autorickshaw and then rammed the three cars at the B.M.C.Circle, off CMH Road-100 Feet Road junction at about 8.15 a.m.

The autorickshaw driver, Shantharaju (40), was killed on the spot. Police have registered a case.

Boy killed in mishap

A 10-year-old boy was killed on the spot and his friend injured when a lorry hit their bicycle on the Ring Road near Narayanapura village in Mahadevapura Police limits at about 3.30 p.m. on Saturday.

The dead has been identified as Jayakrishna, a resident of Narayanapura. Venkatesh (10), who was riding pillion on the bicycle, has been admitted to the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital.

Following the boy's death, a large number of people gathered at the spot and tried to set the lorry on fire. Police said that the lorry driver fled the scene after the mishap.

Arrested

The City Crime Branch (CCB) Police arrested Noorullah (40) of Padarayanapura on a charge of drug peddling and recovered one kg of marijuana (ganja) from him.

Police said that Noorullah and two others were allegedly selling the drug at Padarayanapura in J.J.Nagar Police limits. Two others involved in the case are said to be absconding.

Recovered

The J.P.Nagar Police have recovered stolen property worth Rs.1.50 lakhs by arresting two persons who were allegedly involved in many thefts.

The names of the arrested persons were given as Feroze, alias Hero (23), of Peenya 2nd Stage and Syed Khalim, alias Raja (20), of Wilson Garden. Police recovered two autorickshaws, 150 centring sheets and gold ornaments from the arrested.

In another case, the Subramanyanagar Police arrested Krishna, alias Raja (34), of Tavarekere and Krishna, alias Aboda (28), of Yeshwanthpur on a charge of house break-in and theft and recovered goods worth Rs.1 lakh from them.

The two were allegedly involved in cases reported from Yeshwanthpur, Rajagopalnagar, Tavarekere and Kunigal police limits.

Suicide

A 50-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man committed suicide in separate incidents reported from Mahalakshmi Layout Police limits on Saturday.

Police said that Gangamma, a widow and resident of Gelayara Balaga Colony, was an alcoholic. When her son admonished her for drinking, Gangamma ended her life by consuming insecticide.

In another incident, Ananth, a resident of 11th Cross, Jayamaruthinagar and a coolie by profession, committed suicide by hanging himself. The reason for the act is not known, according to police.
