Tibetan delicacies

IF YOU'RE looking for a different dining experience that would also be economical, then treat yourself to some Tibetan food. Pamlinda specialises in Tibetan, Chinese and Mughlai cuisine, the highlight being Momos. These are like dumplings with meat fillings and can be ordered either fried or steamed. You can try out the Thupka, a noodle soup with shredded chicken/meat, a complete meal by itself.

Pamela and Linda, who run this eating place at Eliot's Beach, have brought with them some special delights from Calcutta. Their Mughlai rolls which are like katti rolls, are mouth watering. The Chinese cuisine offered is more of the Tibetan kind, which is bland but can be flavoured and made spicy with a choice of sauces. The Chinese speciality is Chicken Shapta Boneless. This is a Tibetan chilly chicken dish. You could also opt for a vegetable Shapta. There are the regular Chinese items available too. And on weekends, Chicken Biryani is served for just Rs. 40. Most dishes are priced at Rs. 20 to 25, except the Chicken Shapta which is Rs. 55.

Linda tells me that most of their clientele are North Indians and Bengalis who miss the 'Kolkata'-Chinese variety. Pamela revealed an interesting fact - Tibetans have learned to use turmeric in their food from their association with Indians.
