Mild tremors in AP

HYDERABAD, JAN. 26.Several places in Andhra Pradesh experienced very mild tremors this morning following the earthquake in Gujarat which left a trail of death and destruction.

Among the places where the tremors were felt were Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Machilipatnam and Visakhapatnam. `The vibrations were felt between 8.50 am and 9 am', according to Dr. C. V. V. Bhadram, Director, Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad.

He said only two to three per cent of the people in Hyderabad experienced it, that too those living in high rise buildings in some parts of the City like Begumpet. When contacted, NGRI scientists said the seismographs did not record any significant changes in the Twin Cities.

A report from Vijayawada said people ran out of their flats in Pezzonipet, Poornanandampet, Brundavan Colony, Machavaram, Maruthinagar and Autonagar when the tremors were felt.

A report from Guntur quoting police said Pundla and Marripudi villages in Bapatla mandal, Mannava in Ponnur mandal, Chirravur of Tadepalli mandal, and parts of Old Guntur experienced tremors.

A report from Nellore quoting the SP, Mr. K. Srinivasa Reddy, said at about 8.57 a.m., tremors were felt at Tada, SHAR centre, Sullurpet and Butchireddipalem.
