Kuttiyadi project commissioned

KOZHIKODE, JAN. 27. The Chief Minister, Mr. E. K. Nayanar, has said that self-sufficiency in the energy sector will greatly benefit the State in moving ahead with its industrialisation proposals.

He was speaking after commissioning the Rs. 160-crore 50 MW Kuttiyadi Extension Project near here today.

Mr. Nayanar also laid the foundation stone for the 100 MW Additional Extension Project. Mr. Nayanar said his Government had achieved tremendous progress in the power sector. What was achieved by the State was 72 per cent above the national average achievement, he claimed.

Since the Pallivasal project set up in 1940, more than 12 projects had been implemented in the State in the last 56 years. However, the pace of development in the energy sector has been phenomenal in the last five years. The progress of 500 MW projects was in different stages. This was besides the Chinese model 107 MW small projects.

The other projects being completed are the 100 MW Kuttiyadi Additional Extension Project, 163 MW Athirapally project, 70 MW Thotiyar project and the like.

All efforts are being made to make available power to the common man at a nominal price. By March, three lakh more persons would be provided power connections. Since the LDF Government came to power, more than 15.40 lakh connections have been given.

The Electricity Minister, Mr. S. Sarma, who presided, said the Kuttiyadi project had been completed in a record time. The switch-on of the 110 KV switch yard was performed by the Transport Minister Mr. C. K. Nanu. Ms. M. K. Premajam, MP, Ms. N.K. Radha and Mr. Satyan Mokeri, MLAs, and others were present.
