High-level Panama team interacts with A.P. entrepreneurs
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, FEB. 3. Panama offers wide scope for entrepreneurs
from Andhra Pradesh to set up businesses, said Mr Arturo
Vallarino, First Vice-President, Republic of Panama, during his
meeting with representatives from the Confederation of Indian
Industry, AP chapter. Ms. Shobana Kamineni, and Mr D.V.Manohar,
Chairperson and vice-chairperson, called on him today.
Mr. Vallarino said Panama was developing into a major logistics
hub, from where exports to Latin America and Europe could take
place. Information Technology, Tourism, maritime and agro
industry were sectors for business opportunities, he said. Ms
Shobana Kamineni assured him that CII (AP) would offer complete
support to Panaman Embassy in identifying interested
entrepreneurs in these sectors.
Dr. Vallarino, who visited the hi-tech city, showed keen
interest in the e-governance initiatives taken by the AP
Government and the strides made in the IT field. The Republic of
Panama was exploring possibilities of a tie-up with Andhra
Pradesh in the IT sector, he added.
Talking to presspersons, he said the infrastructure for IT
education was also one of the areas that could be thought about
for mutual cooperation. The large pool of experts in the IT field
and the initiatives of the Government were remarkable, he said.
Earlier, Mr. Ajay Sawhney, Special Secretary, IT, made a power
point presentation to the delegation on the vision and objectives
of the e-governance. The economic development of the State,
improvement in quality of life sought by the Government and the
strategies for putting enablers in place and leveraging private
sector initiatives were explained to them.
The delegation was told about IT-enabled services, APSWAN (AP
State Wide Area Network), AP Secretariat Campus Area Network,
Datawarehouse and training infrastructure. The current status of
IT education (105 engineering colleges, 118 MCA colleges, 413 BCA
colleges and 103 polytechnics) surprised them.
Short films on hi-tech city and how quality of life could be
improved through e-governance were shown to them later.
The dignitaries later visited Oracle and Microsoft facilities in
the hi-tech city.
