High-level Panama team interacts with A.P. entrepreneurs

HYDERABAD, FEB. 3. Panama offers wide scope for entrepreneurs from Andhra Pradesh to set up businesses, said Mr Arturo Vallarino, First Vice-President, Republic of Panama, during his meeting with representatives from the Confederation of Indian Industry, AP chapter. Ms. Shobana Kamineni, and Mr D.V.Manohar, Chairperson and vice-chairperson, called on him today.

Mr. Vallarino said Panama was developing into a major logistics hub, from where exports to Latin America and Europe could take place. Information Technology, Tourism, maritime and agro industry were sectors for business opportunities, he said. Ms Shobana Kamineni assured him that CII (AP) would offer complete support to Panaman Embassy in identifying interested entrepreneurs in these sectors.

Dr. Vallarino, who visited the hi-tech city, showed keen interest in the e-governance initiatives taken by the AP Government and the strides made in the IT field. The Republic of Panama was exploring possibilities of a tie-up with Andhra Pradesh in the IT sector, he added.

Talking to presspersons, he said the infrastructure for IT education was also one of the areas that could be thought about for mutual cooperation. The large pool of experts in the IT field and the initiatives of the Government were remarkable, he said.

Earlier, Mr. Ajay Sawhney, Special Secretary, IT, made a power point presentation to the delegation on the vision and objectives of the e-governance. The economic development of the State, improvement in quality of life sought by the Government and the strategies for putting enablers in place and leveraging private sector initiatives were explained to them.

The delegation was told about IT-enabled services, APSWAN (AP State Wide Area Network), AP Secretariat Campus Area Network, Datawarehouse and training infrastructure. The current status of IT education (105 engineering colleges, 118 MCA colleges, 413 BCA colleges and 103 polytechnics) surprised them.

Short films on hi-tech city and how quality of life could be improved through e-governance were shown to them later.

The dignitaries later visited Oracle and Microsoft facilities in the hi-tech city.
