Tendulkar unwilling to lead India 'B'
PUNE, FEB. 3. Sachin Tendulkar has told the Chairman of
selectors, Mr. Chandu Borde, that he was not keen on leading
India `B' in the Hero Honda N.K.P. Salve Challenger Series
tournament to be played in Chennai.
``I am not prepared and I am not ready for it,'' Tendulkar told
The Hindu. Tendulkar was named captain of India `B' last Monday
in Mumbai. Sourav Ganguly is the captain of the India team and
Rahul Dravid of India `A' team.
The Challenger series is to start on February 12 after the six-
day camp. Mr. Borde said he would have to talk to the other
selectors about Tendulkar's decision. ``He doesn't seem to be
prepared. But personally I would like him to lead India `B'. We
saw how West performed today under his captaincy.''
The last time Tendulkar was named captain of the Indian team
(after the 1999 World Cup) he called a press conference to
clarify that he had told the then chairman of selectors, Mr. Ajit
Wadekar, and the BCCI President, Mr Raj Singh Dungarpur, that he
was not in a proper frame of mind to captain India. But he
accepted it before relinquishing his position as captain after
the two-Test series against South Africa.
